Last time we heard from The Decemberists it was with the 2009 opus The Hazards of Love, an ambitious rock opera steeped in myth and fantasy. But the recently released The King is Dead, Colin Meloy and Co. ditch the theatrics for a simpler set of well-grounded, folk-rock tunes imbued with an Appalachian flavor.
