I have admired Joy Gryson’s designs for many years and very much look forward to adding some to my handbag arsenal. So it should come as no surprise that I was overjoyed when I recently connected with the brand via Twitter to set up this interview with Joy.
Her label is comprised of three gorgeous lines. As I flipped through the Fall 2011 lookbooks, my eyes widened as I attempted to play favorites and choose my top picks. My first love is the famed Trapezoid Satchel (shown above) from the Olivia Harris line. The chains and textured leather in the latest incarnation of the popular beauty are so rad. This bag boasts amazing details and I love that it’s versatile enough for everyday use with an edginess thanks to a cool zipper flap and chain accents. Instantly, I thought this is the one for me. But then I spied the python embossed version in a deep burgundy hue (above middle) and fell even more in love with this satchel. Truth is, I’d love this baby in any color.
But, like the true handbag addict that I am, I’m still smitten with the now classic Gryson Olivia bag.
And further proof of my obsession with this brand can be seen in the additional faves featured in the slideshow below my interview with the ever-so talented designer… remember that Designer Q+A I mentioned before I got carried away professing my love for these bags? Without further ado:
Dena ~ How has your line evolved since it launched?
Joy ~ “The Gryson line has evolved by broadening the assortment, adding some more looks that are casual, as well as some that are a little more dressy. We have also added a Capsule line, which includes some cool night bags in exotics!”
Dena ~ Which style are you currently carrying?
Joy ~ “The Gryson Ruby bag! [below] I love it because it is hand held and crossbody. I need my versatility! It’s small enough so that it does not get too heavy, but fits all of my everyday essentials.”
Dena ~ What other designers/brands do wear?
Joy ~ “Bags, no other brands. I always have to represent! As for clothing, lots! To name a few: Nili Lotan, Yigal Azrouel, Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, Rag and Bone… but I’m pretty diverse with my brands.”
Dena ~ How would you describe your personal style?
Joy ~ “I like to think of it as comfortable chic, but with a bit of an edge. I try, but not too hard! I absolutely have to be comfortable and look comfortable at all times. I definitely like to wear clothes that have some kind of attitude, but remain understated. I never like it when someone can point out exactly who I’m wearing. I like the mysteriousness of it all!”
