four faves: prabal gurung | spring 2013 nyfw

Chiffon. chiffon. A little more chiffon. And some feathers. Practically every piece in Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2013 collection—be it a jacket with pants or a t-shirt with a full skirt—somehow incorporates one or the other. Or both. Apparently, the repeated silhouette of a fitted jacket and slouchy pants is one he borrows from the traditional kurtas that his mother and sister wear at home in Nepal. His collection is most definitely elegant and offers a hip, creative alternative to black tie options. Filmy layers of lighter-than-air fabric float over slinky tanks and party dresses. There is a brief flirtation with a flapper dress silhouette, which I’m a total sucker for. The one low-light—not a huge fan of the spinal print (it feels a bit creepy and too theatrical), but that didn’t stop me from finding at least four faves in this collection.
