Sonya Dakar [Facial + Consultation Part One]

At nearly every facial I’ve had over the last ten years, the technicians told me that I had beautiful skin. I’ve been spoiled with high-end cosmetics and skincare since I was old enough to use them, thanks to my mom who has repped a slew of great brands over the years. The perks of being a beauty writer picked up where my mom left off. And I started wearing sunscreen religiously in my early twenties. I’m 34 now and I still get carded occasionally, so I like to think that I don’t quite look my age… and I hope to keep it that way.

Last Friday, I met with Beverly Hills beauty maven Sonya Dakar and she told it to me straight—no sugar coating whatsoever. Sonya took close-up photos of my face, sans makeup, and zoomed in to give me an in-depth (as in, you can see every pore) consult showing that I had some fine lines forming, puffy dark circles under my eyes (partially hereditary, also due to lack of sleep), a few minor discolorations, and just a wee bit of scarring from poking at the occasional pimple. It was the truth, the whole truth, and I admit it was a bit scary.

She fixed me an Ultima Power Soy Protein Shake with fresh fruit to consume prior to my treatment and stressed the importance of healthy eating and exercise to make you feel good inside and look good outside. (Sonya is a devoted vegan, btw.) We also talked about her supplements. And then she went to work on my face…

I was there for just over two hours. My treatment included an oxygen mask, diamond peel, extractions and LED light therapy. Even with all of that, she “took it easy” on me because I had press appointments that afternoon and needed to be presentable (not red and puffy). So she left me with a healthy glow, clean pores, and sent me home with these newly repackaged products: Organic Omega Booster SerumDaily Face Sheild SPF 30 and Perfectly Pear Lip Fitness SPF 15. Later this week I go back for my follow up (customary for all her clients). So stay tuned for part two…
