I have my mom and aunt to thank for making me a bit of a hair color snob. I've never ever used at-home color. When I was about eight years old, my mom colored my aunt's hair with some do-it-yourself system and it turned green. No lie. I think it probably had something to do with too much time lounging at the pool (chlorine + some lemon concoction hair spray). Those details are fuzzy but I have vivid memories of going back to the store with them, giggling at what had happened (because it was kind of funny) and frantically looking for another box of at-home color to "fix" the problem. I'm not sure what went wrong or how it was actually resolved. The important thing is that I learned the valuable lesson that hair color should be left to professionals.
Salon reviews are definitely one of my favorite perks of the job. Having access to some really amazing salons also keeps me up to date on trends and innovations in hair care. Kaz Amor, at Warren Tricomi on Melrose, worked some serious magic on my long locks, painting in gorgeous and natural-looking highlights. This was also my first introduction to L'Oréal's INOA Professionnel haircolor system. The technology behind INOA is groundbreaking thanks to an ammonia-free, oil-based system that delivers "exact and predictable" permanent color. The results are beautiful and make haircolor damage a thing of the past.
