Argyle Salon + Spa [Brazilian Blowout]

Until last month, I was a Brazilian Blowout virgin. (A bit late to the game for a beauty writer, I know, but better late than never and I’m still ahead of the curve for non-beauty industry people.)

It’s been six weeks since Argyle’s resident Brazilian Blowout pro Nelly Mollison worked her magic on my unruly waves. The process itself was totally painless and took about 90 minutes, as promised by the salon’s publicist. Argyle’s advantage over competitors is that their system is free of harsh chemicals (no formaldehyde) so it actually improves the health of your hair, and you don’t have to wait to wash your hair afterward. In fact, they wash it at the end of the process and you leave the salon with no “down time” for your locks.

I was extremely pleased with my results and reveled at how much more manageable my hair was immediately after the treatment. They sent me on my way with the Brazilian Blowout Acai Aftercare Shampoo and Conditioner (to help prolong the life of the treatment). The first week was incredible. It air-dried to pin-straight perfection. The second week was still amazing and any curl/wave was self-induced because I put it up in a bun while it was still wet. My bangs required no styling whatsoever and dried perfectly straight. Six weeks later, they still do.

My detanglers, leave-in conditioners, smoothing creams and oils have been collecting dust. I’m starting to notice some waves reemerging at the base of my neck (where my hair is the waviest) and just the teensiest bit of frizz when I let it air dry. But overall I think I’ve been spoiled and am used to the favorable effects of the blowout. I’m sure when my “raw” hair returns in a few weeks I’ll be more than ready to get back in to see Nelly again.

The typical life of the blowout is 10-12 weeks. Now at the halfway point of that timeframe, if I blow it dry, it’s still easier to do and much straighter than usual. It’s my understanding that almost everyone is a candidate for the treatment and the Brazilian Blowout website has a great FAQ section to help you decide if the process is right for you and let you know what kind of results you can expect.

I would absolutely do the treatment again before a vacation, and as a mom of a toddler it’s been a great luxury for my daily hair routine.
